Because of the large number of undescribed taxa in Amanita, the best utilization of a taxonomic expert can be to put him/her in the field and have him/her offer supporting training to other collectors before inundating him/her with a great number of inadequately annotated specimens.
Tulloss has experience across the board in ATBI related areas. He has worked with material from extensive (ATBI or ATBI-like) collecting in Colombia, Costa Rica, the Island of Nefoundland (Canada), Chiricahua Mountains (Arizona, USA), Great Smoky Mountains Nat. Pk. (North Carolina and Tennessee, USA), the northeastern USA, etc.
Tulloss was the External Editor of Protocols for an All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory of Fungi in a Costa Rican Conservation Area and has supported, or is presently supporting, survey and thesis-level work by English-speaking researchers and students in Africa, China, India, Mexico, Pakistan, and Thailand. Tulloss has also served as a reader/reviewer for theses and other works written in French, Spanish, and German (descending order of fluency).
REQUIREMENTS
To participate in an ATBI program, Dr. Tulloss requires that he be listed as a co-investigator on relevant supporting grants and that all reasonable expenses of his travel, lodging, and food be provided.
All material sent to Tulloss will be retained in his private humidity/temperature controlled herbarium (information available on request) until return or deposit in NY.
A portion of all material reviewed will be retained by Dr. Tulloss for eventual deposit in NY. It is also our policy to deposit the holotype in the country of origin if at all possible. An isotype will be deposited in NY or another established and well-maintained herbarium
Material collected by Dr. Tulloss will be determined at his expense. Material collected by others may not be determined if it is inadequately annotated. Adequately annotated material collected by others will be determined at a bulk rate of $50 per collection.
Papers describing material within Dr. Tulloss' specialty and co-authored by Dr. Tulloss will be required to follow his methodology and to follow the format of his papers as closely as permitted by the publishing journal. Prior to the writing of a paper, there must be a clear agreement on whether Dr. Tulloss is a co-author or a reviewer of a paper.
SUPPORT OF THE WORK OF STUDENTS
Related papers by students will be reviewed thoroughly and meticulously; however, it will be expected that students follow Dr. Tulloss' methodology and present papers for review that have been previously checked and corrected for problems of logic/presentation, spelling, grammar, quality of illustrations, and thoroughness of treatment.
