    Forays

New Jersey offers five ecological regions in which to explore for fungi, including Amanita. From the Hemlock-Northern Hardwood forest of the north to the fascinating Pine Barrens of the south's sandy coastal plan, there are over 100 species of Amanita present in the state and similar neighboring habitats such as Long Island, New York.

Forays in sites explored by Dr. Tulloss for over 25 years can be visited for small group forays. Clubs and other organizations should contact Amanita-Bear concerning arrangements for honoraria, getting necessary permissions, etc. Individuals and ad hoc small groups will be charged a fee of $30 per person/hour plus a proportion of the cost of Dr. Tulloss' transportation if he drives his own vehicle.

Participants are expected to supply their own insurance to cover any possible mishaps -- Dr. Tulloss will chose a foray route with care and participants will be provided warnings concerning any dangers that might occur on the trail.

Foray activities include on-trail and post-foray instruction in Amanita morphology, development, and taxonomy (as needed in order to help understand the species we are observing) and the mutual project of identifying the species found. Opportunities to photograph the material collected will be provided prior to clean-up at the foray's end.

Dr. Tulloss will collaborate with a group leader in case a report of species found on a foray is desired.
